Join us for this poetry event, presented as a hybrid event, both in-person and online, as part of Reckless Law, Shameless Order: An Intimate Experience of Incarceration.

On March 5, 2007, two car bombs exploded on Al Mutanabbi Street, in the heart of Baghdad’s ancient book district. The explosions killed twenty-six people and wounded over one-hundred.

In 2012, an anthology of writing in response to the attack, called Al Mutanabbi Street Starts Here, was published.

Public readings from Al Mutanabbi Street Starts Here, organized by the Al Mutanabbi Street Starts Here Coalition, have been held around the world in early March since that tragic event.

Honoring courageous journalists around the world—freedom of the press is freedom of speech and freedom of knowledge.
