This fall, Krannert Art Museum, Allerton Park & Retreat Center, and the School of Music at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign have partnered to premiere What Stays Behind, a new site-specific composition by Andrew Rodriguez at the 2021 Art Remastered.

Rodriguez’s original score for strings and percussion interrogates how we experience the spaces of Allerton Park and KAM in regard to sound and movement. The piece will be performed by twelve students from the School of Music, who will be physically spaced out in unique configurations throughout Allerton’s Sunken Garden and KAM’s East Gallery. At each performance, audience members are invited to move throughout the space and in-between performers to participate in an immersive experience.

Two performances will take place in the Sunken Garden at Allerton Park on Saturday, October 2 at 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm.

Another unique performance of What Stays Behind will occur in the East Gallery of Krannert Art Museum on Thursday, October 7 at 6:30 pm. Face coverings and tickets for this event are required. Admission is free.

About Art Remastered

Since 2017, musicians in Urbana-Champaign have written and performed songs inspired by artworks on display at Krannert Art Museum as part of the annual Art Remastered program. Conceived and organized by Kamila Glowacki, Art Remastered transforms the art museum into a lab for musicians across various musical genres and backgrounds to expand their creative practice, a sanctuary for audience members to reflect and experience artworks through alternate perspectives and modalities, and a space for communities to gather and share in the experience of each performance.
