Founded in 1977 and based in Krasnoyarsk, the Siberian State Symphony Orchestra quickly won a reputation as one of the premiere Russian orchestras. Political changes enabled the ensemble to start touring internationally to critical acclaim, and now under the leadership of Vladimir Lande—who is also principal guest conductor of the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra and music director/conductor of the Washington Soloists Chamber Orchestra—its recordings and streamed concerts are available worldwide. With noted Russian pianist Peter Laul, the orchestra will present an exhilarating program of Russian symphonic classics, including an impassioned and once-banned Shostakovich composition and two works by Tchaikovsky—the beloved Symphony No. 5 and sweeping Piano Concerto No. 1.
Shostakovich: Tango from The Bolt
Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor, Op. 23
Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 5 in E Minor, Op. 64
