At this talk, the speaker seeks to contribute knowledge about the experiences of Black African immigrants transitioning to the United States by examining the intersection between U.S. higher education policy and the Black African immigrant’s placement in attempting to obtain suitable employment. Little is known about the impact of international education policies affecting the employment transition of educated African immigrants in the U.S. Even more, there is lack of information about this particular group of students. This work looks to expand the scholarship on immigration and higher education policy, along with, understanding how it impacts the day to day experiences of adult Black African immigrants. First, Ms. Ogwal will present a brief context of the subject at hand, second a literature review on immigration and higher education towards, and last, results from a recent pilot study.
