Title: Data Science and Actuarial Techniques in Tech
Abstract: In this talk, Dr. Chang will explore the growing intersection between insurance and technology, and how the two fields are increasingly shaping each other. He will begin by examining insurance products for the high-tech industry and the unique challenges they pose for actuarial modeling. Then Dr. Chang will explore the reverse direction, that is, how emerging technologies, particularly machine learning and AI, are transforming the insurance industry and actuarial modeling techniques. He will illustrate these advancements with real-world examples, including telematics, aerial imagery, and voice analytics. Dr. Chang will then discuss the fairness issue, an emerging concern in actuarial modeling as AI becomes more embedded in decision-making. Dr. Chang will conclude the talk with an overview of the Casualty Actuarial Society’s (CAS) ongoing educational efforts in preparing actuaries for future AI advancements.
