The CS Starter Academy (CSSA) launched in 2023 with support from Google and addresses transfer barriers that affect students and impact CS. The program aims to enhance CS knowledge, clarify transfer pathways to Illinois universities, connect students to the Chicago tech community, foster a sense of belonging, and provide opportunities to complete an industry-recognized professional certificate. Our cohort this year has 55 students on the transfer pathway primarily from the City Colleges of Chicago, as well as from Harper and Joliet Jr. College. Most students are majoring in computer science, cybersecurity, or adjacent tech majors.
