Japan House Events

Japan House depends on the generosity of our friends and community to keep sharing traditional Japanese arts and culture, with the goal of fostering a deeper appreciation for diverse cultures and practices. We are delighted that Nick Offerman is returning to campus for this special book signing in which proceeds will go towards supporting Japan House programming.

The book signing will take place at the Colwell Playhouse Lobby located inside the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. The ticket includes a copy of Nick Offerman's latest book, Where the Deer and the Antelope Play, for signing. Please note, this is a book signing and Nick will be signing his book only. Please do not bring other items or memorabilia as he will not be signing other items. Photography, audio, and video recording are NOT permitted. If you already own a book by Nick, please purchase the General Admission (without book) Ticket (limited quantities available). Tickets are required for entry to the book signing and books will be distributed at check-in. Guests registered under the “General Admission (without book)” ticket will be asked to verify their book at check-in. Additional guests or observers will NOT be permitted without a registered ticket. Policies will be enforced by staff at check-in.

Please be kind and courteous to staff and other guests during the book signing. By purchasing a ticket; visiting Krannert Center; or engaging with Krannert Center staff by phone, email, or in person, you agree to the tenets and policies of Krannert Center’s Visitor Code of Conduct.

About Nick Offerman

Nick Offerman is an actor, author, humorist and woodworker whose credits include the Emmy award-winning role of Bill in The Last of Us (HBO), Ron Swanson on NBC’s Parks & Recreation, Forest in Devs, and Karl Weathers in the FX series Fargo. He has written five New York Times bestselling books, including his latest, Where the Deer and the Antelope Play and The Greatest Love Story Ever Told, written with his wife, Megan Mullally. In his spare time, he can be found at his woodshop in Los Angeles building hand-crafted items from wood, ranging from spoons and canoes to ukuleles.

Nick graduated from the Universityof Illinois in 1995 from the Department of Theatre where he studied under Professor Emeritus Shozo Sato. In 2017, Nick built a Japanese style gazebo in honor of Sato on the grounds near Japan House. He has generously donated all performance proceeds to help support Japan House on multiple occasions. We could not be more grateful to Nick for his generosity and friendship.

Where the Deer and the Antelope Play contains a humorous and rousing set of literal and figurative sojourns as well as a mission statement about comprehending, protecting, and truly experiencing the outdoors, fueled by a conversation with Wendell Berry that inspired three journeys he undertook in 2019 and 2020.
