Empowering graduate students to create hands-on STEM experiences for youth and families!
This workshop equips graduate students with the knowledge, skills, and experience to design and deliver engaging STEM activities for K–12 audiences. Participants will learn how to:
- Translate complex concepts into interactive, age-appropriate activities
- Foster curiosity, inclusion, and accessibility in STEM learning
- Manage group dynamics and adapt for diverse learning styles
- Incorporate real-world applications in different cultural contexts
- Build confidence, leadership skills, and a toolkit of adaptable activities for future use.
Who Should Apply:
Graduate students from all disciplines interested in STEM education, outreach, and science communication. No prior outreach experience required.

- Part 1: Kickoff Workshop | Sept. 8, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm | Introduction, team-building, and activity design foundations
- Part 2: Family STEM Night Observation | Sept. 11, Sept. 30, Oct. 9, 5:30 – 7:00 pm | Observe real outreach events and gather insights
- Part 3: Proposal Presentation & Feedback | Oct. 14, 1:00–2:30 pm | Share ideas, get peer and mentor feedback
- Part 4: Activity Walkthrough for Feedback | Oct 28, 1:00–2:30 pm | Test activities, refine based on feedback
- Part 5: National STEM Day Showcase | Nov 8, 1:00–3:00 pm | Present your activity at a public event!
