In this seminar, Christian Guerrero-Juarez will introduce a multiscale systems biology approach, combining mathematical modeling, comparative single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, and experimentation for studying mechanisms of skin development, homeostasis, and regeneration in traditional and non-traditional model organisms. The seminar will also discuss how this multidisciplinary approach may be leveraged to better understand human skin conditions.

Christian F. Guerrero-Juarez is a first-year medical student at Carle Illinois College of Medicine at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His research interests include cell fate choice and cellular reprogramming during injury and disease. Other research interests include wound healing and regeneration of complex tissues, stem cells and their niche, innate immunity, patterning, and evolution of skin appendages. He holds dual bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry and biology from California State University San Bernardino and a Ph.D. in biological sciences from University of California Irvine.
