David M. Rubenstein is a co-founder and co-chairman of The Carlyle Group, one of the world’s largest and most successful private investment firms. He serves as Chairman of the Boards of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Council on Foreign Relations, the National Gallery of Art, and the Economic Club of Washington. He is a Fellow of the Harvard Corporation, a Trustee of the University of Chicago, and serves on the boards of numerous other non-profit organizations. He is an original signer of The Giving Pledge and a recipient of the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy and the MoMA’s David Rockefeller Award, among other philanthropic awards.

In addition to his leadership roles, Mr. Rubenstein is a thought leader in the areas of history and leadership. He is the host of The David Rubenstein Show: Peer-to-Peer Conversations and Bloomberg Wealth with David Rubenstein; and the bestselling author of books: The American Story: Conversations with Master Historians; How to Lead: Wisdom from the World's Greatest CEOs, Founders, and Game Changers; and The American Experiment: Dialogues on a Dream.

 

In the course of writing his books, Mr. Rubenstein has interviewed dozens of high-profile leaders. In this session, Mr. Rubenstein will talk with the Leadership Project and the College of Law’s students, alumni, and friends about the strengths and weaknesses of these various leaders and the essential elements of great leadership.
