Join 5 preeminent Israel Studies scholars as they discuss the challenges and opportunities affored by their work with archival and historical materials. The panelists will desribe their research, the types of materials that they work with, and how their work intersects with and/or challenges dominant historical narratives in Israel/Middle Eastern Studies. Topics of discussion may also include access to materials, the relationship between digital and physcial mateirals, the various consituencies that have vested interests or attachments to the materials, issues of precarity and preservation, and the professional development of scholars engaging with these types of projects.

We are particularly grateful to the Israel Institute and Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago for supporting the work of these scholars and programs such as this one. This event has also been made possible through collaboration with the Crown Center for Jewish Studies (Northwestern University), The Divinty School (the University of Chicago), and the Stroum Center for Jewish Studies (University of Washington).
