Along with capturing First Prize in the 2019 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, Spanish/Dutch pianist Albert Cano Smit picked up seven other special prizes including the Krannert Center performance prize. Those honors follow his First Prize award at the 2017 Walter W. Naumburg Piano Competition, which presented him in recital at Carnegie Hall. He currently studies with Robert McDonald at The Juilliard School and has benefited from extensive artistic advice from Young Concert Artists alumni Richard Goode and Jean-Yves Thibaudet with whom he gave four-hand piano performances in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills. Cano Smit has shared the stage with numerous symphony orchestras in the United States and abroad, including the American Youth Symphony and the Montreal Symphony, and has given recitals at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, at Germany’s Rheingau Music Festival, and throughout Spain.

This change is occurring in response to increasingly strict contractual requirements of visiting artists, evolving performing arts industry standards, and audience expectations. At this time, face coverings are still required in indoor university spaces such as Krannert Center. Face coverings must be worn throughout any event or performance. For more information, please see our COVID-19 Safety Protocols page.
