The University of Illinois will be hosting (virtually) the Association for Israel Studies annual conference. We are expecting more than 500 scholars and participants, with more than 120 panels, as well as keynote speakers, plenary, film program, and cultural events.

Highlights include a plenary on the ways women are using the law to advocate for women's rights across traditional divisions in Israeli society, fighting against gender based violence, discrimination and inequity with journalists Dalia Lithwik and Allison Somner and scholar-activists Amal Elsana Alh’jooj and Ruth Halperin-Kaddari.

The opening night events include a conversation with the former US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro, who grew up in Urbana-Champaign, and whose father was a faculty member in the English department and a founder of the Program in Jewish Culture and Society.

There will also be a musical performance by Mira Awad and Guy Mintus, and a dance workshop for non-dancers with Gaga practitioner Omri Drumlevich.

Keynote Dany Behar will speak about Israel’s response to Covid and the success of its swift vaccination program.
