With works by Weber, Hindemith, and Bartók, this program was crafted to showcase Sinfonia’s skill and agility. Weber’s Overture to Oberon features sweet melody fragments from the opera as well as Weber’s other incidental music. Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes by Carl Maria von Weber borrows from that incidental music, transforming and adding to them throughout his four-movement work. Following intermission, Bartók’s ingenious Concerto for Orchestra highlights each section of the orchestra. Pairs and sections of the orchestra bounce melodies back and forth before meeting in a moto perpetuo final theme perfectly fit for closing the season with a flourish.
