Asian American Cultural Center Events

The Asian American Cultural Center paid internship program provides students an opportunity to undertake creative and challenging assignments that promote cross-cultural understanding of Asian American and Asian international experiences, and provide educational and cultural support for Asians and Asian Americans in our university community. This unique internship experience will be offered as a 2-unit Global Studies 199 class + hourly wages. All student interns must register for the 2-unit class. Interns will attend a weekly seminar to develop professional skills and learn about Asian American and Asian international identities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • GLOBAL STUDIES 199 (2 – unit course)

        1. Weekly class meeting on Wednesdays 4:00 – 5:00pm

        2. Readings and response papers

        3. Cross-cultural explorations

        4. Research & projects

  • Maintain a schedule of approx. 10 hours of work per week ($8.25/hr)
  • Assist with front desk reception duties, opening, and closing the building. 


  • Office Specialist / Programming Intern: Assist in managing space reservations, electronic records, inventory, book keeping, databases, logs, scheduling and resources and programs including Food for Thought, CHAI Time, Art Exhibits, Book Club, Leadership Awards and more.
  • International Education Intern: Assist with programs related to international students including iCU OIIR Intercultural Dialogue Series, InterConnect Workshop, GLOBE (Global Leaders Orange and Blue Engagement) and more, engaging domestic and international students on and off campus, and research topics related to studying abroad.
  • Communication Intern: Assist with e-newsletter, website, advertising AACC events via facebook and calendars, flyers, photography, bulletin boards, social media and other forms of media venues. Experience with Adobe Creative Suites preferred.
  • Asian Pacific American Alumni Leadership Intern: Assist AACC leadership related programs, serve as liaison with Asian Pacific American Coalition and UI Asian American Alumni Network and other programs including Food For Thought, CHAI Time, Art Exhibits, Book Club and more. Returning interns preferred.
  • Hermia Soo Outreach Intern: Assist in engaging students with community outreach, on campus and beyond including Champaign – Urbana public schools, libraries, and local organizations, grant writing, and research topics pertaining to Asian and Asian American communities. Returning interns preferred.
  • Health and Wellness Intern: Assist in developing and coordinationg programs on physical health, emotional health, and spiritual wellbeing. Collaborate with other departments such as McKinley Health Center Special Populations, Counseling Center, etc.
