Physics - Condensed Matter Seminar

In 1956 David Pines published a paper predicting the existence of a gapless collective mode in multi-component Fermi liquids. Because it involves distinct motion of different species of electrons he called it a D.E.M.-on or "Demon."  Definitive evidence for the existence of this particle has, up to now, not been found. In this talk I will present momentum-resolved EELS (M-EELS) and RPA calculations suggesting that we have finally observed this excitation in Sr2RuO4, a multiband Fermi liquid.
