Physics - Condensed Matter Seminar

Quantum materials are not only interesting at the level of fundamental physics, but also are promising for the next generation of electronic devices.  However, theoretical proposals for the realization of such devices are well ahead of experiments, and this gap needs to be addressed by the dedicated effort of discovery, design, characterization, and control of novel quantum materials. The combination of techniques for crystal synthesis, transport measurements under extreme conditions, and scattering spectroscopies allows me to explore the new islands in the world of quantum materials. I will illustrate this exciting journey using an example of my recent discovery of an exotic topological superconductor, which is promising for building topological quantum computers.
