This will be a discussion-based workshop in a friendly and talkative environment where we can learn together, ask questions, and share ideas about building stronger job application materials. We will go over:

  • The different types of resumes and when each type may be useful
  • What makes a resume strong, clear, and easy for employers to understand
  • How to prioritize the experiences and skills that are most relevant to the job you are seeking
  • How to tailor your resume for a specific position instead of using the same resume for every application
  • How to translate military duties, responsibilities, and accomplishments into civilian skills and language
  • How to highlight transferable skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, organization, problem-solving, and responsibility
  • How student organizations, leadership roles, volunteer work, internships, extracurricular activities, and other experiences can strengthen a resume
  • The purpose of a cover letter and how it complements your resume
  • How to write a strong and targeted cover letter that explains your interest and prompts a hiring committee to invite you for an interview
