This professional development event invites school librarians and educators to a screening of the documentary *Are You A Librarian?* followed by a question-and-answer session moderated by iSchool Interim Dean Emily Knox with the film's director Rodney Freeman and writer Asia Harris. The film illuminates the often-overlooked history and impact of Black librarians who have long fought for literacy, intellectual freedom, and equitable access to information. Tracing Black librarianship from the era of slavery through affirmative action and into the present day, the documentary highlights historical contributions, contemporary challenges, and significant achievements within the profession. It explores themes of advocacy, activism, and resistance to censorship, emphasizing Black librarians’ roles in advancing social justice and inclusive library spaces. The film also underscores vital work in preserving African American cultural heritage through archives and special collections. Together, the screening and discussion offer participants an opportunity to deepen their understanding of librarianship’s social, historical, and educational significance.
