This webinar is Part 1 of a 4-part webinar series to support school-based mental health professionals broaden their knowledge and enhance their services for children and youth with disabilities involved in the state's child welfare system. Part 1 sets the foundation for understanding essential components of the child welfare and special education systems. It provides information on the roles of child welfare professionals and foster parents in the education system and informs participants of services offered by the state's federally-funded parent training and information center. The session also addresses the importance of coordinated programming between education, child welfare, and other systems (medical, mental health, etc.) and offers strategies for effective collaboration. This webinar will be followed by future sessions on supporting the mental health needs of youth-in-care with disabilities, supporting youth-in-care with complex medical needs, and effectively postsecondary transition planning for youth-in-care with disabilities. These PD sessions will be followed up by offerings of communities of practice.
