We have 5 area music educators who will be attending the Illinois Hip Hop Camp in June 2025 as volunteers. These educators will support middle school and high school campers who will be creating, recording, and performing original Hip Hop music under the guidance of hired artist-instructors. At the end of each day - when the campers depart for elective course experiences with different instructors - the educators will engage in peer discussion around what they learned through observation and participation as well as develop new curricular materials for use in their own teaching contexts under the guidance of camp co-directors and School of Music faculty, Adam Kruse, Lamont Holden, and Pete Shungu. Because minors will be present, all participating adults will have already completed Protection of Minors Training and a criminal background check through the University of Illinois.
