The University of Illinois Astronomical Society (UIAS) frequently holds public observing sessions at the University's historic observatory. These sessions are open to anyone and are free of charge. Visitors have the opportunity to gaze through the 128 year-old, original 12" refracting telescope, as well as several smaller telescopes.

Weather permitting, visitors should expect marvelous views of the cosmos and our fascinating solar system—Jupiter should be particularly stunning. If the sky is cloudy, we offer tours of the observatory along with insight into its long and field-changing history. Throughout the evening, guest speakers will be presenting their findings on spatial and physics phenomena, outlining some of the most revolutionary events in science.
