We summarize primate sensory maps highlighting modality differences and present a downloadable human-fMRI-based parcellation. We review moveable maps and spatial traveling waves data. Finally, using data from scene and language comprehension, we hypothesize that localized activity patterns might escape from mapped cortex, move across cortex, and return to maps to generate motor output.
