Becky Smith, Assistant Professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will present "Data Heterogeneity and Disease Surveillance: Impacts on Precision and Accuracy" on Monday, November 16 at 11:00 a.m.

Abstract: We can only predict from what we see, but what happens when we have blind spots? Public health surveillance varies widely by location, due to population density, funding, and policy priorities. When aggregate data are used, these differences can propagate error throughout prediction processes. This talk will discuss the impact of heterogeneous surveillance programs, from vector monitoring to COVID-19 test availability, on prediction accuracy and precision.
