Join the IIRER for our one-day Symposium on Mental Health and Work: Innovative Clinical Applications in Private and Forensic Sectors.
The IIRER symposium on mental health and work will provide a unique opportunity for professionals in Illinois and surrounding areas to enhance knowledge and skills in serving clients with mental health and other health conditions. There will be an emphasis on both the challenges and the innovative clinical applications that have influenced our practices and education in the fields of mental health and vocational rehabilitation, particularly in private and forensic sectors. This symposium will provide sessions on the application of Illinois Work and Well-Being Model, post-pandemic mental health issues and practices, intake challenges, addictions, and emerging ethics issues in private practices. Overall, the symposium aims to bring together mental health and vocational rehabilitation professionals across the state and provide enriching discussions to improve clinical practices.
Cost is $175 per person and includes:

FEATURED SPEAKERS
David R. Strauser, Ph.D. is a professor and director the Illinois Institute for Rehabilitation and Employment Research (IIRER) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He completed his Ph.D. in rehabilitation psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1995. He received the James Garrett Distinguished Career Research Award (2011) from the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association, the New Career Award (1997) and Researcher of the Year Award (2011& 2021) from the National Council on Rehabilitation Education, and received multiple research awards from the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association and National Rehabilitation Association. In 2014, Dr. Strauser received the George N. Wright Varsity Award given to an outstanding Alumni of the Rehabilitation Psychology Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received the King McCristal Distinguished Research Award from the College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2019. His research focuses is on the career and vocational development of young adults, including young adults with cancer. He is the editor of the book Career Development, Employment, and Disability in Rehabilitation: From Theory to Practice and is co-editor of Assessment in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling. He has authored over 175 journal articles and book chapters and is consistently recognized as an international leader regarding the career and vocational development of individuals with disabilities and chronic health conditions.
Phillip Rumrill, Ph.D., CRC is a Professor of Counselor Education and Director of Research in the Human Development Institute at the University of Kentucky. He is well known as one of the leading employment and disability researchers in the US. He has authored or co-authored more than 500 professional publications, including 16 commercially published books that are widely used in academic training programs in the field of Disability Studies. Dr. Rumrill’s research interests include vocational rehabilitation services and outcomes, employer engagement and disability management strategies, and workplace accommodations and assistive technology.
