Title: Coupling and Applications to Random Walks

Abstract: We introduce the coupling method, focusing on total variation distance, the coupling inequality, and maximal coupling. Applications include Poisson approximation and the constancy of bounded harmonic functions on  Z^d. We conclude with an overview of the key coupling idea in Benjamini and Wilson’s proof of transience for two-dimensional excited random walk.
