Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) - the theory of the strong force - predicts that at sufficiently high energies or densities, quarks and gluons form a deconfined state known as the quark–gluon plasma (QGP), which is created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Energetic partons produced in these collisions lose energy in the QGP and eventually hadronize into particle showers called jets, whose deviations from their vacuum properties reveal the nature of the QGP medium. Jet quenching models predict that the jet hadrochemical composition is modified in the QGP, arising from both modified jet fragmentation and the response of the medium to a jet passing through it. However, a complete understanding of identified particle production inside jets and its potential modification in the QGP remains elusive.

Leveraging the excellent particle identification (PID) capabilities of the ALICE detector at the LHC, I will discuss the first measurements of $\pi$, K, and p ratios within charged-particle jets and the underlying event in pp and Pb–Pb collisions. These measurements provide hints of modifications to the identified particle composition of jets in heavy-ion collisions.
