Physics - High Energy Physics Seminar

Light dark matter coupled to the electron spin has the potential to excite magnons in targets possessing magnetic order broadly classified as ferromagnets, antiferromagnets and ferrimagnets. We compute the dark matter-magnon scattering rate for nine magnetic targets, while also accounting for magnetic form factor effects. Our results remain valid in the high-momentum transfer regime as we do not employ a low-momentum EFT. We compare the projected sensitivities and daily modulation rate for magnetic dipole coupled dark matter across the different target materials.
