Physics - Condensed Matter Seminar

Beyond the conventional paradigms of ferromagnetism and Néel antiferromagnetism, a distinct class of magnetic order, known as altermagnetism, has recently emerged. Altermagnets combine the compensated magnetic order characteristic of antiferromagnets with momentum-dependent spin splitting reminiscent of ferromagnets, offering a unique platform for exploring unconventional magnetic phenomena and advancing spintronic technologies. In this talk, I will present our recent experimental efforts to explore this emerging class of magnetic materials. First, I will discuss our realization of altermagnetism in CoT4Se8 (T = Nb, Ta), a family of intercalated van der Waals compounds. I will then turn to the anomalous Hall effect in the prototypical altermagnet MnTe, highlighting the intriguing interplay between magnetic symmetry and electronic transport.
