Abstract
In this seminar, I will cover three overarching research themes surrounding climate change adaptation: (i) where adaptation fits into possible climate change-related actions; (ii) why agriculture faces an adaptation imperative; and (iii) who adapts -- the nature of private adaptation, public adaptation, and public support to facilitate private actions. In doing so, I will discuss studies my team has conducted on observed adaptations. This includes coverage of mapping and econometric studies on land use and crop mix change, including Canadian and U.S. patterns, grass and cotton as crop replacements, and the implications for infrastructure.  Next, I will address management changes, with a focus on econometric studies of pesticide use.  Finally, I will cover public support for private actions, including econometric analyses on GMOs as a mechanism for adaptation, and work on research investment as a form of adaptation.
