Tokamak Energy’s Path to Deliver Commercial Fusion Energy

Abstract
: Tokamak Energy is the leading global commercial fusion energy company headquartered near Oxford, UK. We are a world leader in two transformative technologies: the compact spherical tokamak and high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets. One company, with licensable technology for commercializing clean, secure and affordable fusion energy and enabling new levels of performance in HTS applications that change the world in which we live today. Our U.S. subsidiary, Tokamak Energy Inc, was established in 2019 and is one of eight companies selected by the Department of Energy for an award as part of its bold decadal vision for delivering commercial fusion. Tokamak Energy Inc’s Fusion Development Lead, Dr. Andrew Shone, will present on how Tokamak Energy plans to utilize its expertise and strategic partnerships to realize its commercial fusion goals.

Bio: Dr. Andrew Shone received his BS, MS, and PhD in Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Following the completion of his PhD, he joined Tokamak Energy as their Fusion Development Lead. His role involves managing Tokamak Energy’s participation in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Milestone Based Fusion Development Program and forming strategic partnerships that further enable Tokamak Energy’s progress towards commercial fusion. Dr. Shone’s background is in liquid metal engineering, plasma-facing components, and plasma-material interactions related to fusion applications.
