Title: Operating and Design Principles for Blockchains.

Abstract: Blockchains have been the subject of recent interest due to their applicability to supply chains and due to new cryptography and security problems that they introduce. In this talk, we will focus on a third area of blockchain research, which is their operating and design principles. This talk focuses on first-principles results for both the underlying peer-to-peer network and for the blockchain data structure itself. We will also introduce several open questions related to ongoing and future research.
