Abstract: The mapping class group of surfaces has been studied from many angles but its representation theory remains rather mysterious. A source of representations comes from the homology of configuration spaces of the surface. In this talk, I will discuss the state of the art on the topic with some of the results applying to configurations on general manifolds. This is partly joint work with Bianchi and with Looijenga.
