Intellectual Property Protection for AI and software programs 

Abstract: Intellectual Property (IP) can account for up to 80% of a company's value. This talk will provide insights on why it is important to have IP protection, different types of IP with particular focus on patents, and how AI and software programs can be patented. 

Biography: Dr. Nisha Somnath works as a trainee patent attorney in London at Marks and Clerk.  Prior to moving to London, Nisha worked as a registered patent practitioner in the US for several years. She has experience developing patent portfolios and drafting patent applications for a wide range of technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, neural network, blockchain, database systems, and fintech applications. Nisha holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and a Masters in Aerospace Engineering from UIUC.
