Abstract: 

The latest trends are to use more and more public cloud tools like AWS, GCP and Azure.  But these tools come with a significant operating cost and performance cost compared to writing software optimized for a target hardware environment.  Joe is Co-Founder of Ocient, a distributed database platform that scales to hundreds of PB and tens of thousands of cores of processing.  He will discuss the decisions made when optimizing performance and cost for the Ocient database platform and the discuss the advantages that give Ocient a 10x performance gain compared to alternative options.

Bio:

Joe Jablonski is a technology based serial entrepreneur that has founded and sold several companies. He is also an active angel investor in technology companies. He is currently Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Ocient, a venture company that has raised over $150M based out of Chicago.  Ocient has built a database platform that scales to hundreds of Petabyets, tens of thousands of processing cores and is generally 10x faster than existing databases when equating cost.  

Joe Jablonski holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois.
