Bridging Academia and Industry: Insights from a Private Sector Internship in Climate Risk

In this seminar, I will share my experience working on Amazon’s Climate Risk team during the final stages of my PhD at CliMAS. I will provide an overview of the application process and the scope of my project there, placing my internship within the broader push for improved climate risk analysis within the private sector. Additionally, I’ll explore key differences between industry and academia, focusing on work culture, expectations, and career development opportunities. For international students, I will briefly cover strategies for navigating the U.S. work authorization process. I hope this talk will offer practical insights for those interested in internships or careers in the rapidly expanding field of applied climate risk.
