Measurements are the foundation of science; we perform measurements to quantify observations and deduce precise mathematical relationships which we call scientific laws. Historically, weights and measures were defined regionally, often influenced by cultural and economic factors, leading to a variety of units and standards. Now the International System of Units (SI) is widely adopted in global trade, industry and science, for its precision and consistency. In this presentation, we will look at how we currently measure mass, explore how scientists figure out the mass of tiny particles like atoms, electrons, and nucleons (which are far too small for regular scales), and discuss what "mass" really means in both everyday physics and the quantum world.
