Lecture/discussion: Exploring the UIC Externship Programs

Learning Objectives:
- Describe the purpose and structure of community-based extramural rotations at the UIC College of Dentistry, including the populations served and the variety of community settings involved.
- Discuss the clinical procedures and public health services provided by students during rotations, and how these experiences enhance their clinical competency and cultural sensitivity.
- Analyze the role of structured student reflection in reinforcing professional identity formation, ethical responsibility, and a deeper understanding of healthcare disparities.
- Recognize the essential role of faculty in mentoring students, facilitating reflective learning, and ensuring a meaningful educational experience in community-based settings
