Abstract: In dimension three, geometrical structures of various flavors have an important role in our understanding of manifolds. Such structures include Thurston's geometries, foliations and contact structures, and hierarchies of decompositions. In dimension four, we have nothing remotely comparable, but we do have some good questions to ask. This talk will explore some of those questions.
