Title: Taming the Real Line
Abstract: I will begin by giving a brief history of model theory, and various methods used to determine whether structures are more or less "complex." With this background, we'll explore a number of more modern forms of determining complexity of expansions of the real line (and usually the real field). We'll round out the talk by diving into one particular way of determining complexity: d-minimality. I will provide some partial results towards a decomposition theorem for d-minimality, and discuss some more open questions in this realm.
