We prove that the polynomial obtained by multiplying a Schubert polynomial with a square-free monomial can be expressed as a sum of Schubert polynomials with coefficients plus and minus one. To show this, we introduce the concept of a cyclic Rothe diagram, which encodes two permutations and a square-free monomial.
