Research Park Events

Join us from 12:00-1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 15 to learn more about HR for small businesses with HR Expert in Residence, Kelly Gust. This will be a hybrid event; please register and you will receive a Zoom link in advance. If you attend in person, there will be lunch provided. 

 

Listen up business owners, if you have even 1 employee, here's a short list of items you should consider pulling together:

• Job descriptions
• Job ad for each position to make recruiting easier
• Interview questions for each position
• Offer letter template
• Onboarding checklist
• Employee handbook/policies that cover the basics
• Confidentiality agreement
• Coaching/performance review template
• Termination/separation letter
• Off-boarding checklist
• Required compliance training

Is it a lot, sure, when you need to have it done asap. But if you take the time to prepare these important tools ahead of time, then you can spend more quality time hiring, inspiring and engaging your team, and less time on "HR stuff."  Structure creates the freedom you need to lead in your business. Conversely, many business owners "wing it" with these tools and create a less-than-ideal employment experience for their hires, which damages the business exponentially. HR Full Circle will share with you the importance of these tools and documents, and how being prepared will help you run your business more efficiently, in a way that is positioned for rapid growth. 

About the Speaker:

Kelly Gust is the Human Resources Expert-in-Residence for the Research Park. She helps organizations connect their people strategy to their business strategy using data-driven solutions to hire, inspire and engage teams to perform.  Kelly is the president and principal talent optimizer for HR Full Circle, a company that provides workforce strategy, talent optimization services and general human resources consulting to organizations of all sizes and stages, and is a certified partner of the Predictive Index. Kelly’s background is in strategic human resources, talent optimization, leadership development, assessment, performance coaching, training, and change management. Growing up in a small business, she understands the challenges many owners face in finding, keeping and scaling great talent. Her experience spans multiple industries such as utilities, travel and leisure, retail, pharma and engineering in organizations large and small. She has a master’s degree in industrial/organizational psychology, and loves helping individuals and organizations reach their potential.  She serves on the growth advisory panel for Innovate Springfield, the University of Illinois Springfield-led social innovation and business incubator program. She also serves on the board of Women Entrepreneurs of Central Illinois and is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources.
