Grainger Engineering: Special Events Calendar

Join Dean Rashid Bashir and The Grainger College of Engineering for the next Conversations with Grainger Engineering Faculty event featuring Dr. Shaloo Rakheja. 

The Conversations with Grainger Engineering Faculty series will bring faculty members to Chicago to share their research and engage in focused discussions with Grainger Engineering constituents during a lunch hour at the Illini Center. Registration is $15 and includes lunch.

The February event features Dr. Shaloo Rakheja presenting The Semiconductor Chips Revolution. Dr. Rakheja is an associate professor and Intel Alumni Endowed Faculty Fellow in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department. She is the recipient of the NSF Computer and Information Science and Engineering Research Initiative Initiation (CRII) Award, as well as the NSF CAREER Award. She is currently leading the Center for Advanced Semiconductor Chips with Accelerated Performance (ASAP).

Semiconductor technology continues to have a profound impact on human lives in areas such as energy, public health, security, business, transportation, manufacturing and artificial intelligence. It is ubiquitous and has transformed the way we interact and communicate with each other. Now more than ever, it is critical for us to support across-the-stack innovations in semiconductor technologies, from materials science and precision manufacturing to electronic circuit design and automation. With significant government investments in semiconductor manufacturing via the CHIPS+ Act, this is an exciting and quite possibly the best time to be part of semiconductor-focused research and development. Dr. Rakheja will discuss the role of public-private partnerships between the government, academia and industry that can accelerate the impact of research, bridge the "valley of death" and create pathways for "lab-to-fab" transition of key technologies. She will also discuss the new college-wide initiatives that have been launched along with industry partners to support the rapidly growing workforce needs of the semiconductor industry at all levels.
