Abstract:
With the field of Computer Science and Software Engineering rapidly evolving, the need for undergraduate education in computing and programming has never been higher. A solid education for the introductory CS courses is not only important for Computer Science major students, but any engineering and even art and literature majors. In this talk, I will describe my teaching experience and interests in teaching computer science and software engineering undergraduate courses. It is particularly important to me that students understand the motivation behind each theory or technique, and apply them to hands-on practices. For programming courses, it is also my mission to establish the mindset for software correctness with the aid of automated testing with the students.
Bio:
Dr. Yiji Zhang was born and raised in Beijing, China. She came to the U.S. in 2011 after she graduated from Zhejiang University and has not left the Midwest ever since. She began her Ph.D. study at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, and finished her degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She joined Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute IN in 2020. During her graduate study, Yiji worked on automated debugging, automated testing, programming analysis, and compiler verification. Yiji is passionate about teaching software quality and a strong believer in test-driven development.
