Professors Reyhaneh Jabbarvand, Charith Mendis, and Tandy Warnow will be this session's panelists.

Tandy

Tandy Warnow is the Grainger Distinguished Chair in Engineering in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Tandy received her PhD in Mathematics at UC Berkeley under the direction of Gene Lawler, and her research focuses on reconstructing complex and large-scale evolutionary histories. She was awarded the David and Lucile Packard Foundation Award (1996), a Radcliffe Institute Fellowship (2003), and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship (2011). She was elected a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) in 2015 and of the Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2021.

Reyhaneh

Reyhaneh Jabbarvand is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests broadly lie in the field of programming languages and software engineering, with a focus on improving software quality and reliability through applied optimization and deep learning. She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of California at Irvine. She has been awarded the Google Ph.D. Fellowship in Programming Technologies and Software Engineering for her work on advancing energy testing of Android Apps and has been recognized as a Rising Star in EECS.

Charith

Charith Mendis is an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to that, he was a visiting faculty researcher at Google. His research interests include Compilers, Machine Learning for Systems and Program Analysis. He completed his Ph.D. and Master’s degrees at MIT for which he received the William A. Martin Thesis Prize for an outstanding Masters thesis and his bachelor’s degree at University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka for which he received the institute Gold Medal. Charith was the recipient of the best student paper award at IEEE Big Data conference and the best paper award at ML for Systems workshop at ISCA. He has published work at both top programming language venues such as PLDI and OOPSLA as well as at top machine learning venues such as ICML and NeurIPS.
