Title: A comparison between the gravitational wave and the X-ray spectroscopy approaches
Abstract: Electromagnetic observations of the radiation emitted by an accretion disk around a black hole, as well as gravitational-wave observations of coalescing binaries, can be used to test Einstein’ theory in the strong-field regime. In this talk, I will present a comparison of these two approaches in a theory-agnostic way using a slowly-rotating bumpy metric and show that gravitational wave observations are already placing very strong constraints on parametric deformations of black hole spacetimes that supersede what can be achieved with current X-ray observations.
