Finite short resolutions of the K(n)-local spheres have been a very useful tool in chromatic homotopy theory in recent years. I will discuss some known resolutions and their applications, at various primes p and chromatic heights n. I will also talk about ongoing joint work in progress on the construction of a finite resolution of the K(2)-local sphere at p=2 and potential applications of this resolution.
