Talk Description: You may have used PrairieLearn in your courses, but did you know it’s also a startup spinning out of UIUC? If you’re curious how an open source project can become commercialized, or how a startup can enter the education market, join us for this week’s Computing Startup Seminar with featured speaker Mariana Silva. Mariana is a Teaching Associate Professor in the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and co-founder and CEO of PrairieLearn Inc., a company dedicated to empowering instructors with tools to enhance teaching workflows without compromising educational quality. Mariana will discuss running PrairieLearn as an open source project and how it has transitioned to a startup with more than 20 major universities using the PrairieLearn platform.
