Title: Opportunities at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park
Speaker: Harley T. Johnson
Chief Executive Officer, IQMP
Founder Professor, UIUC Mechanical Science and Engineering
Abstract: The Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park is a first-of-its-kind public-private partnership in Chicago that is focused on the scale-up of quantum computing and related quantum and microelectronics technology. With a capital budget of more than $1B and growing, the park will become the home to a group of quantum companies, and will provide infrastructure for industry research and development, as well as opportunities for researchers from universities and national labs. In this talk I will provide a short overview of how the park came together, and progress we have made in the first year, leading up to our recent groundbreaking. I will also talk about some of our key corporate partnerships, including with IBM, in which we are planning both hardware and algorithms work. A key part of the planning, and a major part of our collaboration with IBM, is in the creation of the National Quantum Algorithm Center (NQAC). The NQAC is a component of the IQMP that will bring together academic researchers, quantum industry scientists, and commercial end-users of quantum computing platforms. The vision for NQAC and how it will interact with university researchers and the IBM Illinois Discovery Accelerator Institute will be discussed, with an emphasis on current and future opportunities for collaborative research.
