Abstract: Understanding of the mechanisms leading to the formation of chiral domains in inorganic materials will allow us to verify their practical applications and the new phenomena they can host. To induce and control chiral domains, we propose to use chiral/achiral phase transitions with minimal atomic rearrangement. We have selected CsCuCl3 as a model polymorphic compound to drive and observe chiral domain formation. Progress towards the synthesis and characterization will be presented. I will also present the results of our in situ single crystal x-ray diffraction experiments, which reveal the impact of the phase transition on the materials’ handedness.
